Service Description
Foundations of Drawing and Painting 6 lessons on Wednesday afternoons 15th January to 19th February @2 to 4.30 £120.00 Suitable for beginners and those with some experience The first sessions will focus on the basic fundamentals of drawing, with a strong emphasis on working from observation to achieve a likeness of the subject. We’ll learn measuring techniques, shading and developing tone, and how to look and see as an artist to express our own vision. The goal will be to represent the subject convincingly in graphite and charcoal. There will be a strong focus on light and shadow, and how to achieve a three dimensional effect on paper. We’ll work towards completing a large still life drawing in charcoal and chalk on toned paper before moving on to paint. Once there is confidence in the drawing skills we’ll move on to painting, initially learning and studying the materials and colour theory. We’d complete a monochromatic (grisaille) still life study using raw umber and titanium white to gain an understanding of the properties of the paint, and develop confidence with the methods of painting from life and from photographs before moving on to colour. We’ll complete a master copy, studying artists of the past to gain an insight into their thought process, composition, and colour choices as well as different applications of the paint and techniques. The goal will be to work towards completing a final still life painting, where we can bring together all the techniques learnt while bringing our own individual expression and vision to the work. The higher price of this course reflects the materials included, and slightly longer session time of 2.5 hours. 1. Setting up equipment / materials / media 2.
